In Memoriam

Amber

August 1989 – 21 December 2006

Died of complications following dental surgery.

The best little cat we’ve ever known.

She was a part of our family for nearly as long as we’ve been a family.

We miss her very much.

Only a week after moving to the Seattle area (and two weeks after our wedding), we adopted Amber from the Bellevue Humane Society. She was only about six weeks old. She was a very small kitten, and remained small for her entire life.

From very early on, Amber liked to be held in our arms, like a baby. Our fondest memories are of cuddling her and gently scratching between her ears or under her chin. She would respond by closing her eyes, purring ever so quietly, and drooling little droplets.

She was always an indoor cat, which undoubtedly contributed to her long life in good health. She did get outdoors on a few occasions. In our small back yard in Everett, she would run around in the grass for a while, but she would always return indoors to use the litter box! At our Redmond home, she once got spooked and ran off into the woods, giving us a good scare. As night fell, we kept watch by shifts, waiting for her to return home, which she eventually did.

She was a constant companion through all of life’s ups and downs, for more than 17 years. It’s hard to believe she’s gone.

So now I remember the day

When we said goodbye for the very last time

But no one can take you away

‘Cause here in my memories there’s never a very last time

Rest in peace, Amber.
